Bloomberg features DataDocks booking data in tariff uncertainty report

Bloomberg draws on DataDocks freight bookings and founder Nick Rakovsky’s observations to examine how tariff uncertainty affects delivery planning.

Bloomberg featured DataDocks in its reporting ahead of the April 2025 US tariff announcements. The story uses dock appointment bookings and observations from founder Nick Rakovsky to illustrate how uncertainty was affecting business planning.

What Bloomberg reported

At the time of reporting, DataDocks bookings for April were 35% below the previous year. Rakovsky also described a shorter planning horizon: companies that would normally schedule deliveries into summer were not booking beyond the first half of April.

These were forward bookings observed before April began, rather than completed shipment totals. They describe activity on DataDocks, not a measurement of the entire freight market.

Why the planning horizon matters

A dock calendar helps warehouse teams plan staffing, receiving capacity and carrier arrivals. When customers book closer to delivery day, those teams have less advance visibility—even when freight may still arrive later.

That distinction is useful when reading this historical coverage: fewer advance appointments can signal changing planning behaviour, and should not automatically be treated as an equivalent drop in completed deliveries.
